I'm hoping to get a lead on what unit he served in. Army of Occupation Japan. Photo shows unique unit patch and lapel pins, and are the ones on upper lapel for MOS?

Hi MrBreeze, welcome to the forum.

I am not one who would attempt to answer you inquiry, however there are many on the forum who will be able to help in this specialized area.

Do you have any further information on your Father-in-Laws service? Dates of service, service number, or anything else?
Also, please post his name which will assist in being able to provide you with more information and confirmation if it is available.

    Regards,
    Wayne

howdy, welcome to the forum, the "unit patch" is the standard us army air force patch, the upper lapel pins are indeed the mos insignia in this case (aviation) his rank in the photo is pfc(private first class). the lower lapel insignia i cannot make out clear enough to guess at. hope this helps some.

The shoulder patch is the generic Army Air Forces Patch.

Factsheets : Army Air Forces World War II Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

During WWII, the US Air Force was still part of the US Army and was called the US Army Air Force - USAAF.

I do not have a reference book for the Distinctive Unit Insignia that he is wearing on his lapels. Someone at WW2F.com might be able to help you, particularly Erich. Give him try.
