Wondering if there’s any French contributors (or anyone else!) to this site who have done any research into the activities of the above two Free French submarines during WW2, operating much of the time out of Dundee and Lerwick. Hoping someone might have an interest in these Subs and ideally have patrol reports. Thanks
Already known? FR Rubis of the French Navy - French Submarine of the Saphir class - Allied Warships of WWII - uboat.net FR Minerve of the French Navy - French Submarine of the Minerve class - Allied Warships of WWII - uboat.net
If you haven’t read it already this is worth a look: Warship Profile 26: Rubis, Free French Submarine: H. L. G. Rousselot: Amazon.com: Books
Many thanks for replying. Yes uboat.net is a very useful site which I visit frequently but unfortunately the movements shown for these French subs are quite limited so I was hoping that someone may have, or know where to look, for their patrol reports, if such still exist. Trying to piece together their movements through Lerwick, Shetland during WW2. Thanks again.
Many thanks for replying. Not a publication I’d heard of, so definitely sounds interesting and one to seek out. Thanks
Hello again, yes exactly like that! Thank you for the link to a very interesting publication, there’s much of interest in there to follow up if I could ever get down to the National Archives. Being at the other end of the country, in Shetland, makes a visit to TNA difficult and expensive so I was hoping to find someone who maybe had an interest in this subject and had sourced these patrol reports already. All I need is to cross check dates for port visits and brief details of certain patrols. Anyway thanks again, this link is very useful.
Excellent, thanks so much! Very interesting reading and so good to have it instantly on my ipad! Brgds John
