I'd got that mate... weird, just imagining them needing tons of 'settling in' like any large decals. I keep having the best intentions when it comes to Zimmerit, start off intending to find a pleasing way of doing it, then fear drives me to desperately hunt for a picture of the vehicle in question without it. Chickened out on a kingtiger recently and that must be the easiest of all to do, large clear surfaces etc. Might have to do a Hetzer or Jagdpanther with it to get over my 'phobia'.
Working on my Italeri 1/72nd Valentine. Added bedrolls, tarps and bail-out bags using Milliput and a stretched sprue aerial. Yes, I know it's a bit thick. I'd chopped of the conical aerial-base from the turret , as I hope the sprue would replace it but hasn't quite worked. Please feel free to pick holes, adds to the learning process.
But you haven't stuffed the turret with solvents yet??? How queer. I like the big stowed tarps etc. they look right. I get into a hell of a mess whenever I try to fabricate stuff from Milliput. On gaps and scraping; just bought a brilliant 'filler' from Vallejo, comes in their normal dropper bottles and is very thin, dead easy to use and great for adding cast textures to large areas. I think it may be a similar thing to 'Mr Surfacer' but as I've still yet to get some of that I can't really say.
The tarps look fine seen from here. What about if you added tools, spare tracks etc after painting, instead of gluing them on before?
The tarps look fine seen from here. What about if you added tools, spare tracks etc after painting, instead of gluing them on before? Cos I'm stupid and forgot. Got carried away with putting it together. I've a lot to remember and relearn. Either that or I'm brilliant with a fine paintbrush. Cheers for comments, I've broad shoulders, keep 'em coming.
I've got into the perhaps strange habit of building as much as possible of the whole thing, stowage and all before painting, it's only possible since getting the airbrush and being able to reach into corners but avoids a lot of fiddling about with superglue near the end which often bores me rigid and helps to sort of unify the final finish. I always try and keep the tracks seperate till the last minute but often find that impossible.
Following advice, I've tried some acrylic washes on the running gear then some dry-brushing, has it worked? Ignore side-skirts, that's only a base coat. Opps just noticed mould lines on them.
Since this morning I've been busy, may have rushed slightly to get it finished. Dunno if wash and dry-brushing have given me the effect I was after but here is my Valentine in the kids sand-pit.
This is hard for me to say, but I find this Valentine quite good, I wouldn't be ashamed of having it sitting in my shelf! I'm amazed at how fast some guys can build! I guess I'm too undisciplined. As this Vally operated over dry sand, I suppose it would be alright if you added a bright silver highlint to the tracks. That's the only thing I'd add to this. Nice job, Owen.
Nice one. Looks bloody good to me mate, especially considering you've been away so long. I finally gave up on acrylic washes and now always do 'em with oil or enamel, just sort of flows better and doesn't attack an acrylic base.
Nice job mate. looks great, are you pleased with it? How are you doingthe metalic lining is that pencil? Why dont you do a lesson for us an shaping milliput, im hopeless at it too. Kev
Cheers Kev. It's partly your fault that I got back into modelling & VP for his nagging. Am I pleased with it? Yes and No, it didn't turn out exactly how I planned. Still re-learning. No didn't use a pencil, I only read about that after I'd finished it. It's all grey or black artist acrylics washed over. As for Milliput, use talc on your fingers and use shaping tools such as a humble cocktal stick and mini-screw-driver.

Slow down your goin faster even than me. BTW I use a metalic water colour pencil not a HB. Kev
Ok here are some pics of my americans. Bought an Italeri Command Post to display them but I'm enjoying working on em and its still a work in progress!
Ok here are some pics of my americans. Bought an Italeri Command Post to display them but I'm enjoying working on em and its still a work in progress! Nice one. Look good. I wanna do some figures, but have no idea where to start paint wise. I hate painting guns. Never get the colour right and as for uniforms where colours do you use? Kev
LOL its a mixture of raw umber and burnt sienna!! Will Do! The uniforms are Tamiya's Flat earth for the trousers and khaki and olive drab for the jackets!
HEY!! There's nothing wrong with my representation of David Dickinson's version of Band of Leathers........sorry Brothers!!! Bear with me lads , I'm trying. This is the first set of models in 15 years and to be honest painting was never my strong point.
Achtung Panzer. Lovely. I really need to get out more. Italeri 72nd Panzer 2 mk M/N, the very last. No its not PZ4 caption writers. The long gun and the external silencer!! Humbrol Panzer grey. Humbrol Dunkel yellow whatever it is, Tamiya Acyrilc mized with vearious pastels for the underside washes. little bit of pastel brushed on. The schuzen armour was a right pain, the droop in the links was created by cutting up a full lenght and gluing it together night after night. the Rust is Humbrol brown with brown pastel. Pastel pencil for highlights. little bit of HB. I loved doing this one. I really like this panzer grey paint,
