Hi I've just joined and my reason for being here is primarily to find out more about my grandfather, Lieutenant George Moorfield, and his work in the Golden Arrow units. I still have his golden arrow pin He was in India c. 1943 - 1945 when he returned to the U.K. with his wife who he met out in either Calcutta or India (she was in the WAC but her family had been in India for a few generations out at Jamalpur (railway folk). Any help you can give, or anyone who might have known my grandfather, I'd love to hear more. Thanks PS - My grandfather was the band leader - I have a great image of his band larking around in one of the mobile units!
Welcome MoorfNZ I asked if anyone knew about Golden Arrow in this theread some time ago - http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/weapons-technology-equipment/21788-golden-arrow-wireless-4-wireless-group.html - just click on the link and you will find out the little that I know; unfortunately no one was able to add more. It would be interesting to see any photos that you have Noel
MoorfNZ, Hello and welcome to the forum. Sounds like a not too well documented unit. I wish you well on your research. Regards Tom
MoorfNZ here you have a story about one member from the Golden Arrow in Indian. Maybe not much but it's hard to find more about this unit on the net BBC - WW2 People's War - John Nield's War
Sol - thank you, I have been trying to contact the author of that article for some time, to no avail, as the dates in it tie up with my grandfather's dates so he may well have been on the same posting. As far as I know the Golden Arrow unit was very secretive - conversing regularly with Bletchley. I'll check out the other links you all kindly provided - thanks. I do like a challenge and so unearthing more about this unit will be fun. Are there any places where I could perhaps see if I could find veterans of this unit?
Noel - I will post what I know shortly. I have a photograph and a newspaper clipping reference. Here is the newspaper clipping I referred to: The Sydney Morning Herald - Google News Archive Search And here's the photograph:
