Over the next three weeks or so will be busy with Gunpowder Treason season leading up to Bonfire Night and the few days beyond.
I have to admit to enjoying all the accounts of spies and conspiracies. Generally not so interested in Alternative /Counterfactual history but have wondered what would have happened if the Houses of Parliament experienced the 'great blow'.
Here are some of my thoughts about the Monteagle Letter' , the anonymous and undated communication to Lord Monteagle warning him not to attend the State Opening of Parliament listed for 5th November 1605.

Will add one further Gunpowder Plot post:
Pleased to see that the Guy Fawkes biography Pity for the Guy (2010) by historian and historical thriller writer John Paul Davis has been revised and republished on kindle . A paperback edition is also being planned. The biography attempts to look at all known stages of Fawkes's life, including his time as a soldier during European Religious Wars, and as an unofficial diplomat representing English Catholics on a mission to the Spanish Court.

Apparently the only person to enter the Houses of Parliament with good intent!

    Michael,

Years ago now a NT property, Coughton Court, Warwickshire had a display on the plot and the 'great blow'. I don't know if it has survived, but do recall the scale of the planned explosion would have been dramatic. The hosue has now closed and will re-open next year back under the longstanding owner's full control. See: Coughton Court | Warwickshire
