temptage I thought it would only take a few weeks......

Just going through a forgotten folder on my laptop and I found this burial record that I had flagged up

    1941 Harold Foster Haynes.jpg
Plenty of airfields in Berkshire in WW2, but can't find any mention of him anywhere.

I can't see any reason for him not to be involved in the War. Certainly young enough to serve. I think the only reason he might not have served is if he was in a job that was in the Schedule of Reserved Occupations.

If anyone can offer any help on this one, I would be grateful.

One reason I am putting this one out there is I have recently found that the local authority in the Grimsby area during the early years of the War, didnt submit all the names of locally buried war casualties. I, personally, have found, and submitted, the graves of 7 men who died between 31st December 1939 and 20th March 1941 which were all buried locally, but their details were not forwarded to the relative departments. 5 of them were named on various Memorials, as missing, and 2 had not been commemorated at all (both foreign nationals who died serving on British ships). So maybe you can understand why I have flagged this one up.

Newspaper article Grimsby Evening Telegraph 20/1/41 Page 6 on Ancestry has him as victim of Motor Accident.

    "

Mr. Haynes came of a family of engineers, both his father and two brothers being engaged in the same profession.

The interment at Cleethorpes Cemetery was preceded by a service at St. Aidan's Church, conducted by the Vicar (the Rev. E. J. Tuffin).

The family mourners were: Mr. and Mrs. Haynes (parents), Mr. Ernest Haynes (brother), Mrs. Robinson (aunt, Scunthorpe), Mr.

Elvin (uncle, Louth), Mrs. R. Radley, Mrs. Grey and Mrs. Wilkin.

Mountain; Mr. and Mrs. Brown and family; Messra. Phillips and Powis Aircraft, Major R. A.

Marriot. The funeral arrangements were in the hands of Messrs. Kettle, Ltd."

From the mention of Phillips and Powis I suggest he was a civilian working at Woodley Aerodrome and associated with Miles Aircraft.
