Help identifying uniform and service. Greek sailor.

Hi everyone,

I have this photo from a family member. He was a Greek sailor and served in WW2.

I am trying to identify the rank and service in the photo below. I know he was either in the Hellenic Navy or Merchant Navy but the cap badge doesn't seem to match the Navy insignia at the time. The epaulettes are also confusing me.

Can anyone assist with this or any other information, including where I might find information on his service record? Thank you in advance!

I am not seeing anything described here on his epaulets, so maybe it is Merchant.
