I'm trying to track down my Dad's movements during WW2 and am struggling to read/interpret some of the entries in his Service Record including...
    • where posted after completing OCTU ( "Y battalion"? ; "1 Battalion"?)
    • details of Hospital admission
    • November 1945 posting
    • February 1946 posting
If anyone can assist with the detail (and locations if referenced?) it would be greatly appreciated MP Scanlon Service Record.jpg .

    Thanks.

    Hi,

I’ve numbered your queries for ease of response -

    1. where posted after completing OCTU ( "Y battalion"? ; "1 Battalion"?)

He is posted 7th Battalion RUR Jan 1943 before joining 2nd RUR March 1943.

    2. details of Hospital admission

Difficult to read but could it be 21 Canadian Hospital?

    3. November 1945 posting

He is posted to a local admin unit for the Military Control Commission in Germany.

    4. February 1946 posting

Posted to Number 1 Local Admin Unit Control Commission for Germany from Local Admin Unit.

I know it's wiki but it says the 7th Bn was renumbered in 1941. Might be a typo error?
    Royal Ulster Rifles - Wikipedia
The article on 215 Bde is no help as it lists the 8th Bn.

    Thanks Steve

Any idea what the "X (II) List" entry refers to and/or do the "Authority for Posting" and/or "Part II or III Orders" details reveal anything?

    Thanks.

Owen beat me to it re X lists.

All postings had a paper trail and were recorded in writing but those documents no longer exist.

Thanks Owen - I think this has also helped me to identify one of the "redacted" Battalion entries in my 1944 copy of the RUR regimental magazine....

Thanks again, so injured/ill enough to be evacuated beyond the RAP and, bearing in mind that his units were away from the front line at that time and he got married back in Scotland at the end of January, which may help to explain the comment below!
