    Hi all

I attach copies of a service record of the person I am investigating. He joined the Royal Regiment of Artillery in 1927 and was discharged in 1941.

    1. Firstly, I'd welcome any help with interpreting any of the information on either service card - particularly on Service Record 2
    "The initials after "A Coy".......
"Placed on Y List PT2 (in Roman Numerals) 5 or S1Y" (I'm presuming this is the 'injured' list)

    2. If I applied to get Service Records from MOD would I receive anything different to what's here on these 2 cards?

    Thanks

    Andy

He joined the Royal Engineers not the RA.
PT II after Y List is the Part 2 Order giving the authority for putting him on the Y List
He was discharged in accordance with King's Regulations (para 390 (xvi) which is 'ceasing to fill physical requirements), with the authority being Part II 162 dated 4.12.41.
It's difficult to read but pencilled on page one is what looks like 'Embarked NWE (North West Europe) 21/23.4.40.
The card you are showing is a Tracer Card (used for simple information to save time in looking at the Service Record). Service Records will have far more detail on his time in the Army.

Nothing that I can see related to Royal Artillery. I take it that his being in the RA was hearsay or do you have any other clues?
There are people on the forum far better informed than me, particularly with Royal Engineers.

Looks like he served in the RA from 1923 to 1927 before reenlisting in the Engineers - his RA attestation book entry is on Findmypast
