Hieroglyphics on Naval service records

    This small snippet exists on my Dad's service docs. Not sure what it actually says, apart from Stag (HMS). But what does 'Vide' mean?

    Can anybody tell me what the word Vide denotes? This is from my Dad's service docs. Stag was where he was from Feb 1940 to Jan 42

    Difficult to answer without knowing what document contains these remarks as they obviously refer to other entries, marked by the 'sign' before Vide. Usually Vide means 'See'. ie: reference for the original entry is 'Stag Dec 40' and 'Stag Mch 41'. If you post the complete document it may become clearer.

    This thread has a few mentions of vide and I think the gist of it is that it means something akin to “refer to” (see post no. 31, for example).

    I’m sure one of our resident experts in deciphering records will come along to give a better, more correct, definition.
