Himmler's influence in German pigeon matters

  1. I posted documents from The National Archives, London which is correspondence among Flight Lieutenant R. M. Walker of the British War Office, Major B. Melland of M.I.14, and J.L. KLeyn, Captain, I.O.
These cover enemy pigeon organisations and a report on how pigeons were used.

While I have been reading the Columba files, I have been seeing J.L. Kleyn's name. What does anyone know about him?

Seems logical. Himmler was a poultry farmer in the late twenties. Not a very good one, I think.

A couple of mentions of him in the London Gazette:

Pioneer Corps to Intelligence Corps was a path often followed by those who may initially have been classed as "enemy aliens" but who later were accepted into service in British forces. Not saying this is definitely the case here, but it's worth keeping in mind.

Was ther any aspect of German society that Himmler did not poke his beak into?

He had already regulated the basic notions of how people acted, thought, had sex. what kind of cultural values were acceptable. So I suppose pidgeons were just another aspect.

Good to be the king, Heinrich.

What a pity she didn't live to see Richard III's exhumation.

A friend alerted me to the discussion about Johannes Leonardus Kleyn (known as John Kleyn in the UK in Ww2). He was married to my mother Phyllis Margaret Kleyn nee Whicker in 1937. They signed up as British soldiers in 1940 and then were apart during the war for two years. During this time he met Diana, separated from my mother and married her in 1944. My mother did not remarry so I was born as Jane Kleyn and was layer adopted by another family. Phyllis Kleyn was a spy during WW2, and In the latter part of Ww2 John Kleyn became a MI5 agent - after his role as the British army’s pigeon expert.
I applied for his army record and found some wonderful letters written about his work during WW2. All this is detailed in a book called Secrets, Spies and Spotted Dogs by Jane Eales available through Amazon.
