    Hi Everyone

The attached PDF is a re-work of the official history of the 23rd Armoured Brigade Workshops REME from their arrival in NA in 1941 to Italy in 1944.

For those who are interested in all things RAOC/REME, tank recovery and repair this is a good read.

I photographed the doc at Kew and then put it through Abbey Finewriter Pro 11 OCR. The the only disappointing result was the B&W pictures which are not great as their reflective surface made copying tricky in Kew's florescent lighting.

    Happy reading

Seams that they travelled out on the same convoy as my father WS 19, he was also in 8th Armoured Division, they left in November 1942.

    Hi

Their emblem has the number 38 emblazoned upon it. It would be interesting to know where this originates from. Maybe a Light Recovery Section in NA or even a Recovery Section back with the BEF. Who knows?

    Hi Noel

Yes I posted this link myself a while back. It is amazing how technical vehicle recovery actually was.

My own experiences of military mechanics was more like "Got problem....hit with hammer.....still got problem.....hit with bigger hammer!"

    Thanks Andreas

I found the table of tank recoveries over the El Alamein campaign was most informative.

I did however notice a typo where it says 66 instead of 6!

    Hi Jeff

That's fine with me. The more the merrier!

I found it whilst I was researching into my father's wartime exploits. He was a Pte/Cfn Driver/Operator in the RAOC/REME from 39 to 46. He joined 23rd Armd Bde Workshops in June 1944 just before the Brigade went to Greece in Oct.

    Regards

    Gus
