    Hi Folks

I have been redirected from the rootschat.com forum to yours by AndyBaldEagle, to re-ask this question as I drew a blank on that forum

    --------------------------------------

I have started my late uncles family tree, and have been informed he was in the Irish Guards during WW2. Now I want to get hold of his service records. I do have a photo of him in uniform with the word Irish on the shoulder.

His name was Malcolm Harris born 14/6/1926

Now the problem is I have no idea when he went in and came out of the army or even his service number.

Just to add to the problem he died in 1985 in Zimbabwe and his wife a few years later, and I have no chance of getting a copy of his death certificate as proof of death.

Any ideas on this little problem

    Regards
    Ken

Hello Ken and welcome to the forum.

First of all, do you know if your uncle had any children, for in this case they would be next-of-kin?

Next-of-kin only are entitled to apply for records. The Foot Guards Regiments keep their own and they can be applied for by addressing your query to Regtl HQ, Irish Guards, Wellington Barracks, Birdcage Walk, London, but I think you may already be aware of this. As you have his DOB this should be OK if you do not have his Regt. No.

Do you know if his death was announced in a paper or in the Association Journal, for this may have noted his No?

You mentioned that he was married, so if this took place when he was still in service, his Regtl No. may have been written under his occupation. This happened in the case of a Grand uncle of mine. With a number I could make a guestimate for you about when he joined up.

I have a list of several men by the name of Harris, but unfortunately nothing about a Malcolm.

Is there any way you could post up his photograph - perhaps a slim chance of a clue?

    Regards,
    Diane

    Hi Diane

Many thanks for your reply, got side tracked liked you do so sorry for late reply

Not sure if Quick Reply option or Quote option are the correct means of reply either

    Anyway

Malcolm did/does have 3 children my cousins, but the only thing I know on there location is they live on earth . I have been trying for years to find them via Rhodesia forums, facebook etc with no luck.

I will drop the regiment a letter explaining my position and see what they say or can do for me.

I have no idea again as to if his death was announced in the local papers at the time Zimbabwe now is on the point of collapse, and getting any info is virtually impossible.

He got married after the war, and according to my dad it was not that long after he left for Rhodesia.

Photographs I will upload when I have sussed out how to do it, must have my morning after head on at the mo

    Regards
    Ken
