Alex, aka deadb_tch has just been to Kharkov. I asked him to take this 'Now' photo to go with this 'Then' one.
That is fantastic Lads. Alex, thanks very much for that. Eastern Front "Then and Nows" are always interesting to me. Any idea when the 1st picture was taken?
Brilliant pics Any more "Then and Nows" planned? And one more question - what's that building behind the tanks? It looks pretty grand, a government building perhaps . (?)
It's this. Derzhprom - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Derzhprom or Gosprom (Ukrainian: Держпром Russian: Госпром), building is a constructivist structure located in Freedom Square, Kharkiv, Ukraine. Its name is an abbreviation of two words that, taken together, mean State Industry. In English, the structure is known as the State Industry Building or Palace of Industry.

Stalingrad's way cooler than Volgograd. And Tsaritsyn or whatever they used to call it before the revolution. I say bring the old name back!
Tsaritsyn has an artsy-fartsy sound to it, looks like what a constipated elf would call his dog Yes, bring back the previous name!

Anyway back to KHARKOV, am I right in thinking that building was used by the Germans as a HQ ? Quite likely - haven't found any evidence confirming that yet.
