    Hi Michel

Ive uploaded a couple of photos which you have probably seen but they are pretty cool.

Grandad ended up on LCH100 which I think was involved in the Walcheren Island Operation. Mum remembers that it was sailing for the east (Burma) when the war ended.

Ive also attached a photo of him at HMS Ganges. He is sitting in the front row flanked by the two officers (I assume they are as they are wearing ties).

    Hope these are of interest.

    Hi Michel
Do you have any pointers on where to definitively find what craft my father would have been on? The reason I ask is that mum always thought it was LCT635 but being over 90 is not so sure. I seem to recall this was confirmed by Tony Chapman who used to administer the Land Craft Association. My Fathers service number is JX426444 and as previous his name is Eric Reginald Smith. Not sure if you can assist but worth asking.

    Appreciate it, Chris

  3. Chris,

If Tony Chapman was reasonably certain that your father was on LCT 635, then you can take his word for it. He had tons of contacts with veterans and unpublished documents about landing craft, which were passed on to the D Day Museum Portsmouth (now The D Day Story Portsmouth). That would be the place to search (in the LST and LCA Association Archives) if you have the opportunity.

Michel, Still researching my wife's uncle aboard LCI(S)-525 Flotilla 202. Always looking for photos of Flotilla 202 vessels. Downloaded your spreadsheet of Warsash Loading Plan last night and noted possible error. My eyes are getting old, but think it was LCI(S) 523, and not 513 that carried members of 10 IA Commando.

  5. James,

Thanks a lot for noticing this error. You are absolutely right, this was a typo by me. I have edited my post above accordingly, attaching the corrected version, hopefully OK this time.
