I saw this on eBay a few months ago and was fortunate to acquire it, a Ross 10x70, it is ( I am a bloody anorak) the third example I have come to own but whilst not needing it I could not pass on it, sad I know.
( I try to resist being "hoarder").
This is the largest "handheld" binocular issued in WW2 but in truth, you will 99 times out of 100 see it on a director stand, it can be handheld but realistically at sea, this would be a lost cause, it is simply too heavy.
I bought it knowing that it would need work done the gentleman who sold it told me it was kept in the garage of an elderly neighbour who had recently passed away and he was asked to clear the garage and "throw everything into a skip", he felt this deserved a better fate.
I had it cleaned but on one side the objective ( large lens) needs to be separated cleaned and recemented, hopefully, this will see it improved. ( It is clean and bright in the right side and dull in the left ).
The extending shades are also stuck so this will need to be sorted.
