    Hello All

Can someone help please. I'm researching a local man AB Frederick K Harris RN who according to his service record served aboard the two LCT's 505 and 2188 (Landing Craft Tank) for the attached dates. Does anyone have any information on these two LCT's please. Thank you.

If so, please tell us more of what you already know when asking a question, so that we might help you better, and also waste less time trying to answer you. For example, do you also have his postings after 4 Feb 45?

Yes that is him. He sadly died in a car accident when at HMS Rosneath on 16/3/1946. I do not know the exact circumstances of this but was told verbally by a family member many years ago that he was a member of the site's fire brigade when he died. As to his postings after 4 Feb 1945 see attached. Thank you for your help.

  4. Nothing on HM LCT(4) 505.

    HM LCT(5) 2188:

So far only photos shot in 1945 during or around Op ECLIPSE (food supply to and German PW evac from the Netherlands). Perhaps FK Harris is one of the sailors on those pics.

    See 7 photos on Navsource:

One more here, captioned "Arrival of the British Royal Artillery Jaffa Force in LCT 2188 on 29th May 1945" at Terschelling (slightly before 1/3 down the page):

    Dear Michel
A very big thank you for this which has helped greatly in my research into Fred Harris. Much appreciated. The attached is a rather blurred photo of him but he maybe indeed one of the sailors in the group shot.amongst the Navsource photos. If you come across any info on LCT 505 please let me know.
    Kind regards
    Trevor

  6. The Green List as of 5 Jun 44 has LCT(4) 505 at location Toward, part of 46 LCT Flotilla, administered by Capt. M.L.C. (Major Landing Craft), Western Approaches Command.
Half the craft (six) in 46 LCT Flotilla at Toward, the other half at Troon.

Still no photo of 505, and also none of any of the other eleven craft then in 46 Flotilla. Too far from the major theatres of operations for the photographers to bother I suppose.

Thanks for additional info. It gives me some additional clues for my next visit to the NA at Kew.
    Cheers
