From there on, they went Eastwards towards the town Of Hechtel, where they were attacked by strong German forces and it was at that moment that X Company, Scots Guards, got cut of on September the 9th. The town of Hechtel was only cleared the 12th with artillery support.
Getting back to Dee's original post, this would be consistent with her relative being a member of X company, so perhaps this is her most promising line of research.

Yes, I think that there is a great possiblility that her relative was with the X company, Scots Guards.... The book is certainly still in print, it was published by 'after the battle' and written by Karel Margry. o_O

They have a site where you can order the book from:

    http://www.afterthebattle.com

It is one of the best books on operation Market-Garden, although quite expensive (it has 2 bands), but the battle for the Belgian Canals is written with great detail and many pictures and maps.

Well, that's all for now, I'm getting ready to go to Normandy -- 'D-day 60 years on' you know.... ;)

Dee - just to let you know I haven't forgotten about the Scots Guards history; D Day and a new PC has sapped my time of late!

No problem, I fully understand how busy you are right now with the tours and things. Hope you get the new PC sorted out too, I know from personal experience that it can take a lot of time to sort especially if you have to set it up from scratch.

    Hi Paul

I just wondered whether you have had any chance to have a look at the Scots Guards info yet?

My reason for asking is that I am about to launch my own website with regard to my relatives during WW1 & WW2 and it would be nice if I could include something on Bertie in there somewhere.

    Many thanks

    Dee

Hope all this is of interest, Dee and sorry I couldn't get more straight scans but the book is 500+ pages thick and I couldn't get it to lat flat on the scanner without damaging the spine!
