Well, the snow returned, although we got only a couple of cm / a little less than an inch, but the whiteness returned!
Heavy snow fell Wednesday night into Thursday, and we had 20 centimeters/eight inches of snow in the morning. On Thursday, the snowfall turned to rain, and some of the snow disappeared. Yesterday, it snowed again, making for a beautiful winter landscape. Today, it rained again. Thursday at 3:45 AM Saturday
The first photo is from Thursday, near the river banks normal ice, but in the middle is ice, which is formed when the snow floes coming from the upstream are piled up on the surface and then frozen. the two other photos are taken today, we have now some 8 to 10 cm / 3 to 4 inches of snow
I have snow. Difficult to tell how much since it is drifting but there is no sign of life anywhere. No traffic. Leeds Bradford Airport, less than a mile away, is closed. It has been snowing for nearly 12 hours and the forecast is for snow all day. A man has just walked past, up the middle of the road. He seems confident that there will be no traffic. At least I know I am not the last survivor. Mike
Leeds is getting it and no mistake Mike. Snowy scenes in Leeds amid weather warnings Keep out of it fella; patrol indoors today. Kind regards, always, Jim.
All to be expected Mike if you live high up in Yeadon . Keep that central heating on. You're not alone; we're here for you Mike . Kind regards, Lesley
Only a couple of inches here in North Yorkshire, now turning to rain. Think ourselves quite lucky-the US is going to get much worse . Severe winter storm puts much of US on high alert. US winter storm: Kentucky and Virginia declare state of emergency
West London had a couple of cms last night, followed by an hour of ice-pellets.................now rain. All foul!
It's snowmageddon here in the Derbyshire Peak District. Trying to post a photo but my phone is playing up! May need rescue mission.
Heavy rain here, no snow at all, but last night Sue’s brother, who lives just 15 miles away, sent her a photo of his garden under a few cm of the white stuff.
Jobs for today: a) build snowman b) ski to the pub Jobs for tomorrow: deploy snow shovel and clear pavements.
Our area was gritted twice last night, and since this Winter began I'd only witnessed them here once before. Caught sight of 2 snowploughs as well in the nearby town, probably getting into position. So, there was no lingering overnight frost or icy patches like we had the days and weeks before, no snow, just 10 mins of half-hearted sleet an hour ago. They're emphasising across the news networks how difficult it is to forecast where snow will fall but if there's no gritter out again soon, I'll be expecting some icy conditions at least.
Snowed here (South Staffs) overnight second time this winter. Rained afterwards. Now very icy. 0400 this morning
My area in Lancashire has had about half an inch of snow that fell overnight. Since then there has been icy rain which is still falling, I love the funny names they give the gritters in different areas of the UK, Gritter Garbo, for example. Scotland's ones are listed in this article, including an interactive map of them. https://www.scotsman.com/news/weath...-from-taylor-drift-to-sir-andy-flurry-3946388
