Hello I'm looking for info on my grandfather Anthony Ions. He served in 1St battalion the parachute regiment in Africa and I believe Italy. If anyone has any living relatives or documents that may be of use it would be of great help

Hello and welcome Edward. The best way forward is to apply for his service records here:
    https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records

They will tell you where he was and where at a certain time.

Have you seen the site paradata? Just scroll down the page and there seems to be lots of pages/photos for you to look at there.

I found this Report in the 1 Parachute Regiments 1944 war diary and thought you may be interested in it.

The battalion diaries covering WW2 are held at the National Archives in London.

Do you know his army number? I have a Lows in the 1 Para Bn. list for 42. That doesn't say enough. The mispelling in army lists is enormous, but an army number might help. Best wishes
