Like the subject line says does anyone have images or maps that they would care to share of 5 Advanced Base Workshop at Mussaiyib Iraq? I require them for context in my research.

    Thanks in advance
    Chris.........

After being temporarily located with the 37 Indian mobile workshop company on the outskirts of Baghdad, 5 Advanced Based Ordanance Workshop moved to Al Mussayib where it utilized the premises of the same rifle factory.

from Craftsmen of the Army, P 168.

    Thanks for the reply gentlemen.

I'll not hold my breath but you never know what pops up. Craftsmen of the Army is a great read, wish it had a little more about 5 Advanced Based Ordnance Workshop. From the excellent narrative 'Coming of Age: 1939-1946, by John Cox' there is mention of the [FONT=&quot]Royal Sussex Regiment utilized for guard duty but no mention which battalion this was. Would anyone have an idea which battalion was posted there?

    Chris,

You could always try the REME museum, they have a picture archivist, who was very helpful when I contacted him. There may be a charge though for the service. The contact details are on the REME museum website.

    Cheers

Sorry to hear that Chris. The archivist did a thorough search for me but drew a blank looking for my pics of my grandfathers unit in Italy too.
