Does anyone have any info on what became of these two men after they were relaeased from captivity in 1945. Plenty on their exploiuts on 21 May 1940 but after then - zilch! Looking for when they died and what they both did after the war.

Hi Jerry. Just saw your post from back in 2014 and asking myself the same question about Sgt Benjamin Thomas Doyle (a distant relative) I do know he died in 1966 in Hawarden, Flintshire. If you have uncovered anything in the intervening years I would be extremely interested. Many thanks

Norina2854 - I didn't see Jerry's post from back then so it was interesting to see it now, thanks for resurrecting it - I think both Major King and Sgt Doyle were repatriated before 1945,both, I think, due to the wounds they received in France. I haven't been able to spend any time digging around the repatriation files at Kew but as far as I recollect, they were repatriated 1943? (I could well be wrong as I haven't looked at this element for years). I will look at my very limited data and if there's anything post war to add will post it.

PS - I would love to see a photo of Sgt Benjamin Doyle if you can get hold of one (I guess it depends how distant a relative you are!). He sounds a character and it's be great to put a face to the exploits.

    regards,

    Nick

Thank you for your reply. You are quite right in thinking he was repatriated in October 1943. to a hospital in the South of England. I have no official documents on this only that I obtained through the newspaper archives. I have a photo of a sort again this I found in the Cheshire Observer published 31 May 1947 when they told his story of going to Buckingham Palace to collect his DCM from the King. It would be good to find out one day how he coped in life with his disability and what nature of employment he took up. Maybe thats wishful thinking. But yes if you find anything of interest I'd love to hear

    Regards
