Hi all don’t know if anybody can help my grandad PTE Herbert
Walmsley 3457848 was in the R A anti tank from 9.11.40 to 11.1.44, I’m told he was a dispatch rider for a Major Wills ( wills woodbines) he was stationed In Rothwell near Kettering sept 41, he moved then to Norfolk to train for North Africa, I presume he went to Africa, after this his regiment split and he joined the East Yorks 12.1.44.
I’m waiting on his war records from the MOD but Im off work at the moment and getting inpatient, Any help would be great .

    Thanks Matt

    Hi Matt

According to Casualty Lists 1939-1945, your grandad was wounded in Burma on 24/01/45 whist serving with the 1st Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment.

According to the Army Block Allocations, the number falls inside that given to Lancashire Fusiliers (3433001 - 3511000) which would explain why he is not popping up on either FMP or Ancestry RA attestation databases.

    Hope this helps

    Hi,

You’ve started a topic with the title Major Wills but it’s all about your Grandad - whilst you have another recent topic about him.

I appreciate you may be “off work and getting impatient” while you wait for his records from MOD but this type of “duplicate post” is unnecessary as it causes a waste of time for members who spend their time turning up information that has already been covered.

If you are really interested in Major Wills then you could search London Gazette for him and go on from there while waiting for your grandfathers service papers.

    Patience is a virtue……

Sorry for wasting everyones time, I am trying to find out about major Wills also, I’ve tried to find out which one of the Wills family my grandad dispatched rode for, thought it might link to his RA unit.
