This is a great aunt of mine. I have always been intrigued by these pictures, one was taken in Italy. Someone suggested she may have been in the army. Can anyone verify this and if so, I assume in some kind of admin role? Can anyone hazard at guess as to where could she have been stationed in Italy?

    Many thanks

Excellent photographs, and with that smile and jaw-line, Joseph's sister perhaps?

It is indeed! Joseph's brother (my grandad) was Norman and I found a tracer card for him in the Royal Artillery anti-tank. He told me he used 18 and 25 pounders and took out German tanks. He said also that he was a commando and trained in Scotland doing unarmed combat, but have found no evidence of this on one WW2 commando forum. That was about all he said of the war. I have applied for his records. His other brother Tommy was a commando, no3 I think and he was in the raids on Lofoten which were important. He didn't tell anyone in the family about what he did, until the end.

The first photo with the low wall and fencing is typical of Italy.
