Knowing I'm interested in WW2 history a friend of my wife's recently came across a book about this crash. It was published in 1997 and although it is only a short read it interestingly claims the aircraft spun out of control as opposed to the single approach made to avoid children. One witness even thought the aircraft was carrying out Victory rolls.

The book puts forward several witnesses who saw these series of rolls before it came down. Although the author concludes: 'Whether Mi Amigo and her crew tried to avoid the children in the park or not, is immaterial. What is important is that on a cold February afternoon in 1944, ten young American airmen, thousands of miles away from their homes, died whilst fighting a cause they believed to be right.'

The author then goes on to say to conclude his book must come 'from no finer words' than those of Lt. John Kriegshauser the Pilot himself.

This is a letter he wrote to his parents to be read in the event of his death.
