Can anyone say what happened to Diane (dbf) and Jim Herriot?

    EKB,

Diane left her role as a Moderator, due to the Online Safety Act and is shown as not having logged in now a long time. I had no response to a PM when one of her threads reappeared.

Jim told us he was ill in a post earlier this year and the chemo treatment was hard. He has not logged in for at least three months. Others have tried to contact via PM with no response. All wish him well.

Absolutely David. When I became a regular poster on here, both Diane and Jim were extremely helpful and most welcoming.

Be lovely to see them both back on here, at some point, in the future.

    Best.
    John.

I will happily second that sentiment John....both are missed on here.

D's off being a granny. ("HA! You OLD!" etc., in case she reads this.)

I've tried to raise Jim via a few means. No joy.

    Seriously:

    People go.
    People die.
I cannot over-state how 'libertarian' I am on this.
We are an Internet forum/Pixels on a screen.
Twenty plus years here, and the membership is almost 100% changed since 2004.
The 'archive' & discussion rolls on.
I am privy to some moderate level of who/what/why people disappear, but it's mostly glimpses.
I like to think whatever people's reasons, or even if the Reaper's popped in, that the main thing is they're happy to leave their chat & info lying about here.

If anyone wants to inform us chaps that they've karked it - leave instructions with your loved ones.
I mean... When we had access to Google's stats, the average age here was 55-65.
    So... Y'know.
    Cough.

    Hi,

Just been using the search function to look for one of Diane’s Guards posts.

Forum search box didn’t recognise member dbf or simply dbf? Only found member dbhay?

Is it a glitch at my end or something else?

Doesn’t bring her up in the search box, same for me, but if you just type dbf yourself in that posted by member field, it should be ok.

I just got this, for example:

    No idea.
I'll re-run the member database thingy, but search has been useless for years.

It’s this search box that isn’t working for me….if I put dbf in “posted by member box” it doesn’t recognise the name?

Bummer, Steve. I don’t get that little member name tab that usually pops up to click on either, but I just type dbf in that box anyway, hit search and I get the results list.

    Think I've sussed it.

Seems that after not logging in for a long while members names stop appearing on the pop-up/autocomplete in search.
Tested with a few I've known to be dead for years and it's the same.

They're still indexed - if you just put the username in that field it brings up all posts.

Will rebuild search cache anyway, as member cache didn't change it.
Don't think it'll work, though, as it's apparently behaving normally.
Will maybe have a look at settings, but I believe it's the software stopping cached data from becoming too large.
