Hi, I'm trying to identify the Admiralty Designation Number (and thereby possibly the builder) of the MLC on which my father & others escaped from Timbaki/Agia Galini, Crete on 2nd June 41.

As well, I'm trying to confirm whether "SD" is a type of Flag Superior for MLC's.

Two MLC's were left at Timbaki by HMS Glengyle on 19 May, when she disembarked A&S troops

One platoon member recorded the one they escaped on as SD13.

By way of cross reference, 3 MLC's left at Sfakia by HMS Glengyle on 29/30 May were also subsequently used by troops to escape Crete. One is recorded as 96 SD 15.

Therefore I presume that 96 is the MLC Admiralty Designation Number, which seems substantiated by "British Vessels Lost at Sea 1939-45", where 96 is recorded as reported "Lost in Middle East" in 1941.

Is it fair to presume that SD13 would have been 94 SD 13?

And regarding SD, is it possibly derived from the Flag Superior of HMS Glengyle? (Although I cannot locate a pennant number for the Glen ships in 1941). Or does it relate to HMS STAG - the Combined Training Centre (CTC) Middle East at Kabret, Egypt?

(Further cross reference on the use of SD numbers, attached are photos of SD25, being used as a bath house by Afrika Corps troops).

    Any thoughts on these queries?
