    Hi Everyone,
I am wondering id anyone can help me find out what happened to MTB 630 on the 1st May 1943, when 3 crew members died, including:-
    ABLE SEAMAN
    PERCY NORMAN CLARK
    Service Number: P/JX348646
    Regiment & Unit/Ship - Royal Navy, H.M.S. Midge
Date of Death - Died 01 May 1943
    Age 19 years old
Buried or commemorated at HOPE CEMETERY
    Grave 260.
    United Kingdom

As you can see he was buried at home, so his body was recovered, but he was involved in some action as he is described as "Died in War Service." Can anyone tell me what action he was involved in please.
Any help appreciated, Regards, Mavis Williams

    Info I found

30/4/43 MGB 605, MGB 606, MGB 610, MGB 612 and MGB 621 with MTB 624, MTB 630 and MTB 632 depart Great Yarmouth to patrol the northern section of the Dutch coast.

MGB 621 is compelled to turn back with an engine defect. MGB 606 and MGB 612 with MTB 624 patrol the outer convoy routes off Vlieland and Terschelling.

MGB 605 and MGB 610 with MTB 630 and MTB 632 patrol the inner convoy routes.

0500 Both groups turn for home and shortly afterwards MGB 605 and MGB 610 with MTB 630 and MTB 632 sight four German vessels and close hoping that they will be taken for E Boats. MGB 605 and MGB 610 with MTB 630 and MGB 632 engage with gunfire and severely damage three Flak Lighters. A German account states the force was four boats from 12. Vorposten-Flotilla and. V 1241 / Stangenwalde was sunk

    Hello friends,

I didn´t find a report of the 12. Vorpostenflottille or the higher command of Sicherungsdivision in my collection.
In the Kriegstagebuch der Seekriegsleitung there´s a short account on this action, which states (my transalation):
At 0545 o´clock there is a skirmish at Vorpostenposition "Mainz" with enemy fast attack craft. Vorpostenboot 1241 sinks after artillery hits. The other 3 Vorpostenboote recive artillery hits, too. Personal casualties on each vessel.

Our Crew database gives these seaman of V 1241 a) as killed on 01.05. or b) died the following days in hospital on Borkum:

    a)
Carstens, Wilhelm StrmMt 10.05.1915 Rendsburg 01.05.1943 bei Terschelling Cuxhaven Kommando "V 1241"+ N.411/35.S.

    Maybe Michel, Alfred 30.05.1919 01.04.1943 "V 1241"+ is a casualty, too, and 01.04. a typo for 01.05. We´ll check this.

    Hi Mavis,

I found the other vessels involved in this skirmisch. Translation according to KTB Skl Teil D: Lage Westraum, Nordsee 02.05.1943:

Vp 1241 sunk by artillery hits and not by torpedo hit. [...]
Addendum to action against enemy fast attack crafts on position "Mainz":
Vp 1242 hit in waterline, 14 heavy and 1 slightly wounded.
Vp 1246 3 heavy and 1 slightly wounded.
Vp 1248 hit in waterline, 4 heavy and 1 slightly wounded.[...]

So we still don´t have the numbers for the crew of Vp 1241.

    Regards

    Darius
