    Hi Julie

We have these questions all the time and your best route to answer the question you raised is to obtain his service records. These for WW2 can ONLY be obtained from the MOD and the forms you need are here - Request records of deceased service personnel for info, they are NOT available at any other website or from any other source, and they are the most crucial part in starting to trace your relations history

    The Green Howards 4379001 - 4435000

His service number fits within the band above but does not guarantee that he served with them during the whole of the war, servicemen where moved at times to where they were needed

In between times it might be worth looking at this 4 Wilf Shaw WW2 veteran he seems to have been in the same Regiment at the same time, and I believe one of our members was involved in the web site

    Hello Julie,

By way of background, the 6th Bn Green Howards was brigaded with the 7th Bn Green Howards and 5th Bn East Yorkshire Regiment in the 69th Infantry Brigade, 50th (Northumbrian) Division. This is relevant to the link I am posting below.

Here is a link covering the action that the 69th Infantry Brigade was involved in prior to and then on 27/28 June 1942 (but covering mainly the 7th Bn Green Howards). See from post # 8 onwards: Sgt John Weston Sampson 4391075 7th Bn Green Howards

    Best,

    Steve.
