Come across this family photo recently.

It's of Frederick Gascoigne, born 16.03.1912 probably from the Kippax/Castleford area.

I'm pretty clueless with anything regarding the Navy, so any pointers with regard to the uniform/ badges etc would be appreciated.

Able Seaman qualified Gunlayer. On left arm is a Good Conduct Badge for 3 years Service next badge would be due after 8 years. Standard WW2 'HMS' cap tally.

Not sure what’s on his breast
Looks like a pin on ribbon bar but the ribbons should have been seen on further up

    regards

Not sure either. There's a medal ribbon on his uniform but I can't make it out. As to the bar I came to the conclusion it is possibly a name tally. Unusual but he might have been on a course or something where name tallies were required.

It’s too low and they should be seen on for ratings two to a row

He may be wearing a tropical pin on ribbon bar but it wouldn’t be correct
