    Hello forum,

I am translating a handwritten war diary, 6 Green Howards in September 1944. I have now come across a sentence that does not make sence to me.

    :) Any help is appreciated!!!

That makes more sense! :) wonder why they abbreviate right and not left (lft)?

    :) Ok!

I have made a sketch with this new information. 1 and 2 are the orchards. I would think that B Company would flank A Company instead of D Company, going towards Heuvel.

    :) Hallo Stolpi!

B Company occupied Heuvel, C and D Company the two orchards in the north. I can only imagine B Company attacking Heuvel from the right flank of A Company.

Hi Nijmegen, have missed you yesterday! - really we should do this discussion over a cup of coffee, instead of over the internet ;).
:) Can I not do both?! The more the merrier, is the english frase, I think. Maybe next weekend? I don't think it would be advisible to criss cross during an attack...

Yes you can - just kidding!
    :) Kidding is allowed!

See attachment. C and D cover the northern flank. B is to go to the main objective, Heuvel. A (just one company, 6 Green Howards is nearby) is covering the right flank.

    No criss-crossing!

    Many thanks tmac!!!

Here is my next question. NTR means "Nothing To Report" but what does NES mean?

    See attachment.

    I wonder...

NES = No Enemy Sighted ?
:) OK! Sounds very plausible!!! All agreed? :) I need multiple sources!

    Nijmegan,

I would agree NES = No Enemy Sighted.
