The number 183 was previously in use by Quorn Camp, which became camp 9 in Summer 1946.

The site at Saltby was just to the NW of the airfield. It only seems to have been Camp 183 for a short while as it was soon recorded as a satellite for Langar Camp 262 and then, from 13 September 1947 it was administered by Allington Camp 51.

Postcard attached is interesting in that it was written in Norwegian. Unfortunately, the details (ebay item) only said it was dated 1946, and not the month.

Just started to look for info about this site - it held Ukrainians in 1947 and there was a memorial to them, now demolished. Location SK 8584 2740.

Any further info would be gratefully received.

    Best wishes - Malcolm

Malcolm, have you any evidence that Polish troops were used to guard this camp?
