CWGC added the following casualties to the WW2 Roll of Honour today. United Kingdom Book of Remembrance SKELLY FRANCIS Corporal 14827907 Royal Army Service Corps 10/06/1946 WALLACE JAMES WELSH Trooper 14181865 Royal Armoured Corps 26/03/1947 NOT FORGOTTEN
Chris, Do you know why it has taken so long? I note Francis Skelly was probably serving in India in June 1946. CWGC show him as the only casualty for his unit.
Any idea how long the CWGC is taking to come up with an answer about submissions for non commemorated war dead to be recognised as official casualties please? In 2019 I submitted the documents for three WW1 casualties to the Commission and another WW1 casualty in early 2021. Receipt has been acknowledged and at least one of them had got through the first stage of the process and had been passed on to the National Army Museum ... Since then, it all seems to have ground to a halt. I would have thought with the pandemic lockdowns that should have enabled the process to get through submissions a lot quicker. Any staff involved with the process wouldn't have much else to distract them from the task and most of it could be done from a home computer.
Large numbers of cases have gone through in the last few days. They are listed on the Great War Forum & the IFCP Forum. If you have a specific case you want chasing could you please e mail me.
Thanks Chris, I've sent you the email (three names, all WW1 so I won't bother putting them on here). They were submitted in 2019 so well over two years ago.
