If you want to learn more about the battle on the causeway that is depicted in the film look for the Battle for the Sloedam - there’s loads on the internet
Having viewed the movie, I suggest rearranging the words in the title of this thread to "The forgettable new battle film"
A disappointment. Takes a very long time to get anywhere; the focus is too narrow well past halfway and the battle scenes at the end are not the best; there is also poor sense of timing to events. I felt that they had spent a lot of effort trying to make it look like "1917" at the expense of a credible plot. Much expectation not fulfilled and a missed opportunity. Oh, and glider pilots not wearing any form of wings anywhere? I think not.
Having a bit of interest in the battle of the Walcheren Islands I was looking forward to this movie, but sadly am disappointed don't get me wrong there was some good bits but sorry not enough for me to enjoy it
In a nutshell and a thousand times better than the movie and for only a fraction of the budget spent on the 'big' movie: The Forgotten Battle, the story (documentary made by the regional broadcasting company: Omroep Zeeland) The book below has been published by the presenter Tobias van Gent (in Dutch)
Just watched The Forgotten Battle tonight and didn’t even manage to finish it. A slow, confusing mess that is all over the place. A huge disappointment.
