I was privileged, along with another veteran, to represent Wigan Community Armed Forces HQ at a surprise birthday party for Eric Radcliffe. Eric will be 100 tomorrow. He was a Grenadier Guardsman and served in the Guards Armoured Division as a tank gunner. He arrived in Normandy on the 18th July 44 and fought with his tank up to Nijmegen. He then suffered with a severe stomach problem and was invalided back to the UK.
We have persuaded Eric to come to our Veterans Brunch tomorrow morning where there will be one or two surprises waiting for him. As you can see he looks remarkably fit for a man his age.
