Bit of a moan about modern life this. Back in early July my lad started to process to join The Army Reserves. The Sergeant we saw said my son has to contact our GP to get my son's medical records to pass on to the unit. One potential recruit he told us about had, at that time, been waiting 16 weeks. It's now mid September & despite asking the GP twice , they are still very busy & are working on it. Any other members have relatives in a similar situation? Why can't the MoD just contact the NHS themselves ? It wasn't like this when I joined in 1986.
If they're owt like our doctor, they've probably got better things to do, like sitting on their arses refusing to see heart patients. Oh just send us to A &E because they can't be arsed. Rant over. We have access to our patient records, why can't you ask the receptionist to photocopy them for you. They did it for me when I went privately to see a consultant.
If I remember correctly, we had to print forms off from MoD site & hand in at GP, as it been over 2 months now I forgot. I just wonder how many potential new recruits are waiting for their GP to fill in a few pages of A4 paper.
Medical Records is a frustrating hoop which both sides have no glory in their rapidity of action. Used to work 1990s with an ex Nuke Submariner Officer - he was tearing his hair out at trying to get MoD release his medical records so he could tick box life insurance for his mortgage offer. MoD would not even consider redaction of what seemed to be the sticking point for release - not annual radiation exposure but recorded exposure to other COSHH substances! Do not remember him solving it - think he went for a different mortgage with higher premiums that did not have life insurance as a requisite. Ross
A friend recently joined the Police he was given various medical sheets which he had to fill in, details of existing conditions/medications/ vaccinations etc with dates and outcomes. He then had to present the form to his GP to check . He duly handed over the form to the receptionist who took the form and asked for a pre payment of £50 . He paid the money the GP came into reception didnt even look at the lad sitting nearby ,signed the form and disappeared back behind the reception. £50 for a 30 second signature ? The receptionist said the form wasnt covered by the NHS. Other none NHS charges can be found below:- https://www.mysurgerywebsite.co.uk/website/C82072/files/Non-NHS.pdf Kyle
GP had forms well over 3 months now. The forms have moved from our local surgery to the main one in town centre but still not filled in. Part of the form is a bit that they send off to the MoD to get £65. It's in the GP's interest to do it as they get paid for doing it.
Today I did something I've never done before, contacted my MP. He's on the case now. We've hi-lighted an issue he was unaware of before. My lad's mate was lucky, he only had to wait two & a half months to get his form back. He has his selection weekend coming up later this month.
GP Receptionist told my son today to stop contacting them. The Dr is very busy & they'll let him know when they are done. The NHS is a bit shit really isn't it? I've just read that this sort of thing been going on for years. See this story from 2018. Capita Army recruitment delays: 'I felt I had given up my dream' What a fucking shambles.
It all takes a bit longer than it did when all one had to do was down a swift half and find a shilling at the bottom then !
Oo, progress. They called, in process of filling it in but need to see my lad about something so he going Monday.
