Organization Tables & Hardware Information

It has been a while, but I have added two new items to my web page.

One covers the tactical organization of the Royal Thai Army 1940-45. They were only a minor belligerent, a short war against the French in Indochina and occupation of part of Burma, but almost nothing has shown up regarding their tactical organization published in any language I can find. There was, however, a typescript on the subject written by the Thai Army itself on the shelf in the Pentagon Library. That formed the basis for what I wrote.

The second covers military hardware. The US Army Ordnance Department amassed huge files on US and foreign military hardware during and between two world wars. These are now held by the National Archives in College Park, Maryland. Unfortunately, the archival finding aids for this department are poor. So I plowed through most of those boxes, one at a time, noting the contents. If you are interested in the military hardware of the time, they are an absolute gold mine - manuals, reports, photographs, all manner of material. Over 700 boxes in this one group alone. The downside, of course, is that you have to be able to visit College Park. If you are, or have a friend who can, and are interested in this kind of stuff, take a look at my notes. There is something for almost everyone.
