Pathe films 1939/40 BEF, some good shots of the BEF. The last two links BEF in France and Troops Land in France you have to click on to see. Must be more out there. Keith Here are the links B E F IN FRANCE (BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCES) - SOUND (FOREIGN) Troops Land In France 1939 (1939)
A few more The battle of Dunkirk: German footage, 1940 . At 10 mins in, the BEF at Dunkirk on the beach. Pathe Gazette Special - The War Latest Aka Dunkirk
Second BEF Home Again - what a load of cobblers. The Royal Navy keeps getting mentioned, but all but one of the ships shown are merchant ships, which saved almost all of the 139,812 British troops and many allies, in Plan Aerial.
The second film shows 1st Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers at Gavrelle. It's on my list of places to ride to. I need a cameraman though
Rich...What was the identity of the bulk of the vehicles, flat backs as might be said shown passing through Gavrelle?. I say this as the same vehicle is shown being used by the RAF SIB in their hunt for the Gestapo responsible for the murder of the Stalag Luft 111 fifty. The photograph shows two RAF SIB officers in front of the same type of vehicle at Kiel. Unfortunately the registration is obscured by one of the officers sat on the mudguard.
Morris-Commercial CS8 15cwts, Harry. In typical early-war trim here with just the load bed tarpaulin.
Thanks Rich and Morris for identifying the vehicle type...15 cwt loading, it must have been regarded a small utility vehicle. The vehicle type here is shown immediate postwar at Kiel.
