Thanks for the kind words. He'll be 90 in January, without much sign of slowing down.... too stubborn !

In the third pic, where dad is kneeling, I didn't think he was wearing his cap. On closer inspection, it's so far down the back of his head, it may as well have been a nurses cap !!! When I asked him how he managed to keep it on, he said " dunno, must've been my wirey hair " If I didn't know better, I'd think it was sewn on.

Speaking to my dad today I mentioned pic 3, where he's kneeling.
After having these photo's nearly 20 years, I had never noticed that he WAS wearing his cap. He told me that upon returning home in 47, they had a homecoming parade and his C.O. was marching along side him. When he saw the way dad was wearing his cap he said -
" Peace ! Are you wearing that cap, or is it walking behind you ?! "

It struck me funny so I thought I'd share it. Merry Christmas all..

Nice Pic, nice to see a pic from someone else's family member who's part of the 52nd field Artillery RA, I never knew my grandfather but was always led to believe he was part of RASC but when I received his service record he was part of the 52nd but I don't know which battery or anything else as yet about the regiment, he joined in Jan 1942. I have posted pics under other titles, so if you posted a search under grifnick they should reveal, there is one of several guys at a place called Lammie camp.

I am very late to this thread. My grandad served 52 field RA. I have only one picture of him wearing the hat that also defies gravity

52 Fd Regt RA were the unit that had almost the entire Bolton Wanderers professional football team in it. 15 in all if I recall. The only casualty was their Capt.

They fought at the Battle of Monte Cassino in 1944.

    Regards
