Polish badges. I believe the below images are badges from the Polish 2nd Corps. I wonder if anyone can identifie and name each one and also where they would be situated, such as shoulder , cap etc please, these came from a box of photographs held by a friend who is tracking his granddad ( PETRI ) history. Thank you...
Hi Broadflash and welcome to the forum On the first picture is sign of 2nd Polish Corps. Second is badge of 3rd Carpathian Division while third is badge of Independent Carpathian Rifle Brigade. Photos of these three you can here. I don't know what represent symbol on the fourth picture, it look like some kind of memorial sign.
from here. At the conclusion of Polish military operations in and near Monte Cassino, the Polish government in Exile, (London) established a campaign cross to commemorate the battle. A total of 48,498 crosses were awarded with accompanying award documents issued in the field to each soldier who took part in the battle.
Many Thank yous Sol, I believe this fits in nicly. My friends grand father was one, Wtadystaw( spelling) Petri, at least i think thats the spelling. Done a google search but cannot find anything on him, would there be anything out there would you think.. Or if there is any more details on the 2nd Corps.. regards....
Well if your friend grand father have all of this then he was probably of Polish Independent Carpathian Rifle Brigade and later 3rd Carpathian Rifle Division and with this formation fought at Monte Cassino. On the internet you can find couple of sites about Polish Army in WW2, also some good books are written about them. For more info about friends grand father you can try to contact Sikorski Museum in London. Sorry but I don't know what else you can do.
Hi Guys. Thank you both , will go along and check out the links and see what i can find for him. Kind regards.....
