I have previously posted this under War at Sea, but new information that they're in fact a combine ops unit leads me here. So I am wondering if any knows of an Establishment for this unit or where I may make enquiries? There seem to have been a good number all formed at Dundonald (35). Particularly looking at #16 because it ended up in Saigon 1945/46, via LST3007 as part of Op Masterdom Any input will be gratefully received. I have seen Wardlow's page on Naval-History.net which has a transcription error in the Unit title. They are described as Landing Ship Tank Platoon instead of Pontoon. But so far nothing else. Thanks in advance John
For reference the previous thread was: Naval party LSTP/B U organisation It is a stand-alone post and had no responses. Where does this information come from? I assume (35) is a footnote and #16 is a list. It does not match Warlow's database.
No davidbfpo it is all from Warlow's database Naval Party, Royal Navy, 1942-1991 by Ben Warlow Scroll down for Naval Party 4166 A quick count of number of LST PB/U formed is 35. Dundonald is, I assume, their training base. I put the number in a confusing place in sentence, sorry. And 16 is individual unit designation, thus unit I have particular interest in is LSTPB/U 16. Any info on an of these is very appreciated. Any ideas were I may find an Establishment? Naval museum is not taking on line questions. I live in Ireland so visiting archives in England is very tricky with restrictions here at this time. John
Try: Combined Operations in WW2 Home Page There was a museum in Scotland, alas lost and their webpage can be seen via: Secret Scotland - Combined Operations Museum Search this BBC website: BBC - WW2 People's War - Normandy: Combined Operations
Thanks to tip from member on TOandE groups.ie and a ton of help from Stephen Fisher (Spitfires of the Sea) I have what I was looking for. The party is in addition to regular LST's compliment (2 Officers, 1 PO and 11 Ratings) Thanks to all. Loachra
