Private Frank Edward George Lentern . Aged 22. Service No 10579131
1 st Ordnance Maintenance Co, the Royal Army Ordnance Corps (RAOC)
Son of Frederick and Hilda Lentern and husband of Hilda Lentern of Kingsteignton.
    Died 11/10/1944 in the Netherlands
    Buried Erp Roman Catholic Cemetery

On this same Cemetery are 8 RAF airmen from the 15 Sqdn buried. They crashed on the 2nd of November 1944. Private Lentern died a month earlier so he wasn´t in that plane.

The Royal Army Ordnance Corps (RAOC) was a corps of the British Army. It dealt only with the supply and maintenance of weaponry, munitions and other military equipment.

Can anyone tell me what the RAOC, 1 st Ordnance Maintenance Co did in the area between Eindhoven and Uden in the Netherlands?

Hi avane. Just come across this post just now. Although I have some very limited information about 1 OMC it is sadly not whilst the unit was in the Netherlands.

However, I can tell you that the OMC establishment was created initially because of the difficulties experienced by the RAOC in Italy with different methods, establishments, formations, etc causing problems with administration and supply. "The unit had to hold and handle stores and ammunition at railheads, roadheads and in maintenance areas." (source RAOC regimental history)

If the information I have about 1 OMC is of interest to you let me know.

    Regards,

    Julie.
