    Hi

I am a great fan of the forum and contribute in my own way.

I seem to be having problems uploading a simple word file when I tried it said the file did not have the right extension. Can you suggest what the issue is and how I can solve it.

Can you also suggest how I can find a way to upload 2 GSGS Maps of Tunisia or do I need to take a screen shot of a specific area copy to a WORD file and then upload assuming it does not reject that.

Save it with a .txt extension?

When you hit the 'upload a file' button you are presented with a screen detailing the types of accepted files:-
    upload.jpg
I assume that the maps are picture format i.e. jpg, the main problem might be size if they are full sheets.

I'll have a look tonight at adding word type files.
I've a sneaky suspicion there was some reason they weren't included when I set it up, though.
    Wait out.

For the Word files, you could always 'save as PDF'

For the maps, I'd strongly advise inserting them in posts as thumbnails, not the full image, otherwise the whole thing will download everytime someone looks at the thread.

Thanks for taking the time to provide a screen shot that is very helpful.

Added .Doc & Docx last night.
    Then completely forgot to say.
I may have been drunkenly ranting rambling in a conversation with Owen, so let's blame him.

    Testing:

    Appears to now work.
(I would add the caveat that .pdf probably is a more universally accessible format for wordy stuff, and I'll be keeping half an eye on whether allowing the format in has other issues. Still that faint bell ringing... Should be fine. )

Caution; Word docs can carry mal-scripts

Yeah, it was something along those lines, and... I just don't like them... but... There's a lot of other foulness that can be attached to a lot of other files too.
Will return to reading up on it, and quite possibly be horrified on reading something I've read before.
That faint bell is a touch troubling...

A few years ago I analysed a VB script attached to an MS Word doc sent to a school I was working in. I could see that if run on Windows it would create an exe, which then set up a pipe to a web address (server) and then sent a copy of the users email address book.
When you get a mal-email from someone you recognise (but they didn't send it too you) that's often how its done.
PDF is probably safer. RTF files are OK as they are text files without scripting and (I think) can still be created from MS Word or OpenOffice.

    .Pdf is definitely safer.
Will dig about and see if there's a more sanitised/general filetype that can bridge the gap. Currently amused at the sheer craziness/spectrum of word processor files.
To anyone reading: .Doc/x may well disappear without notice.
    A touch queasy.

    'Word Processor'...
I mean... can we trust anyone who thought that was a reasonable term.
    Deary me.

Especially when the results are so often more along the lines of "food processor".

Thanks for all your efforts everyone. I will endeavour in future to save a WORD file as PDF and upload it accordingly. Listening to the thread about people mis- using WORD files to try and get your info I remembered I said to someone today just because I may be paranoid doesn't mean people are not out to get me!
