    Hi All
    Hope you are all well.
I have been asked to look into the chap below for a relative, interesting background and interested if anyone can come up with any further tips or links to investigate further?

    Pte Hugh McGlade
Born: 1st Feb 1919, Portrack, Stockton, Co Durham
    Died: April 1982, Yorkshire

    Service Details:
    Service No. 4392260
    7th Battalion Green Howards
    (from FMP)
Reported Prisoner of war, previously reported missing, 14.6.1942
Previously reported POW in German hands, now Repatriated: Western Desert, 1945
(Taken POW twice and escaped twice)
Escaped as prisoner of war to Yugoslavia and joined the resistance fighters.
Involved with SOE in operations Tombola in March 1945.

Family Story: took a watch from a dead German SS soldier, some family still has it plus medals etc but not the relative I know.

I am hoping to get his death certificate and order his service records but after seeing update on current service records...
    I won`t hold my breath?

Thanks in advance of any tips.
    Best regards
    Andy

There are many threads that refer to Tombola and a good number to Operation Tombola. On a very quick scan one mentioned a book on the SAS in Tuscany. Even more threads on the camp itself. Good luck.

Same question was asked from a different poster in 2011
    Request for fathers POW details
Perhaps ask a mod to merge the two enquiries as they relate to the same man? Theres a comment that reads `according to his records` possibly in receipt of service records already ? If so may save you time and money?

Feature on him here although his nephew does say `I never got the story from his own lips…` [?]

Well done Kyle. The original poster was last here October 2011.

There is a second introduction thread, but it does have some information and recommendations for books: Hello to all
