I am looking at the below gent who was posted to Ceylon and wondered if there was anywhere I might find out some info on him/ the RAF base he was at/ how he travelled there etc? I do have his Id card for this time, a sticker type black and white image saying 84 Bomber Command and an envelope with an address of LAC A R Padgett EL Flight A R S RAF Station Cawnpore 1095304 Arthur Roland Padgett
One way is luck - someone, somewhere has written something which might tell you The other way (and more certain) is to apply for his service records - Request records of deceased service personnel TD Arthur R Padgett 1921–2005 BIRTH 25 SEP 1921 • Morpeth, Northumberland, England DEATH APR 2005 • Eastyorks, Yorkshire, England England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1916-2007 Name: Arthur Ronald Padgett Death Age: 83 Birth Date: 25 Sep 1921 Registration Date: Apr 2005 Registration District: Eastyorks Inferred County: Yorkshire Register Number: ER7D District and Subdistrict: 541/1D Entry Number: 60 If he was in 84 Squadron then try contacting 84 Squadron Association By the way - in all I have read about the squadron there doent seem to be a link to Ceylon
Tony56 that’s great thank you, do you have to have a subscription to access the Burma Star Association and where is it located please? Tricky Dicky thank you for your assistance too. Gunner
84 Squadron (not command) RAF was briefly based at Ratmalana, Ceylon between April and August 1943, but spent most of the war based in India. Not sure why you are particularly interested in Ceylon, but your best bet is to request his service records as advised above.
I have a copy of the Air Britain history of the squadron that I'll dig out and see if your chap is mentioned.
Thank you all Jitter Party it’s just where his id card was from. Orwell1984 that would be great thanks Tony 56 thank you I have applied for his service records but it’s been about 8 months and heard nothing although people have said it is taking much longer due to Covid so I am trying to get info in the mean time. Things like Burma Star Ass I did not know about till today everyday is a school day
Lots of detail on the operations of the squadron in Scorpions Sting, including their short stint in Ceylon where they lost two Vengeances in action. No mention of your fellow in the text of the book. However in the acknowlegements there is an A R Padgett listed. Padgett does not appear in the squadron nominal role for Feb - March 1942 provided as an appendix.
