One way is luck - someone, somewhere has written something which might tell you

The other way (and more certain) is to apply for his service records - Request records of deceased service personnel

Tony56 that’s great thank you, do you have to have a subscription to access the Burma Star Association and where is it located please?
Tricky Dicky thank you for your assistance too.

84 Squadron (not command) RAF was briefly based at Ratmalana, Ceylon between April and August 1943, but spent most of the war based in India.
Not sure why you are particularly interested in Ceylon, but your best bet is to request his service records as advised above.

I have a copy of the Air Britain history of the squadron that I'll dig out and see if your chap is mentioned.

Lots of detail on the operations of the squadron in Scorpions Sting, including their short stint in Ceylon where they lost two Vengeances in action.
No mention of your fellow in the text of the book.
However in the acknowlegements there is an A R Padgett listed.
Padgett does not appear in the squadron nominal role for Feb - March 1942 provided as an appendix.
