    I copy below a rough transcript of 36 Army Transport Coy RASC for period following landing Normandy 1944.

    I have three main questions;

    1. Compo I believe are ration packs of a type and just wonder if there is a record anywhere of the number of types and contents.
    2. Backload from deliveries is stated as salvage - any ideas on what this could include please.
    3. I am sure I have read elsewhere that RASC did not transport ammunition but this diary seems to suggest otherwise. Any ideas why.

    Thank you Brian

    1) Compo was the composite ration. The 'types' mentioned here are almost certainly the different menus A-H. I'm sure I've seen a thread with some detail so will dig further.

    2) Salvage is most likely to have been empty packaging like jerricans and ammo boxes.

    3) In this instance, RASC units are transferring ammo between depots in bulk. At lower levels, they also drew (from RAOC-run depots), carried and issued ammo to fighting units.

    Brian,

    You have probably read that RASC did not supply ammunition. It was supplied by RAOC. RASC certainly transported it.
