Hi all, There are at least two recent books on my mind in this category - I'm wondering who has read these? What are your opinions of them? Are there others? Brothers in Arms by James Holland (Sherwood Rangers) Burning Steel by Peter Hart (2F&FY)
Just finished "Burning Steel". Loved it. In particular, I think, because of the large number of first hand accounts in it.
I expect them to be quite different books, and personally don't care much for Holland. Peter Hart used to be the oral historian at the IWM, so he did a lot of the interviews with vets. His work is first-class for what it is (oral history of the regiment), but it's not a tidy or scholarly study of the regimental war, if that's what you are looking for. Book Review – To the Last Round I highly recommend also his podcast. it's great fun. All the best Andreas
