    Hi all,

I'm sure this has been covered somewhere before already but I have had a search through the forums and cannot seem to locate a thread which directly answers my specific query, so I'm hoping someone will be able to shed some light please?!

I have attached three photos of my Great Uncle Bill who was a Staff Sergeant with the 98 Heavy Anti Aircraft Workshop Section, REME, 21st Army Group in 1944.

The first of which appears to be an early-war shot, in which he is wearing the Field Service Cap but in the later shots he is not wearing any headgear at all. Was the field service cap worn throughout t he war (when not wearing a steel hemlet) or would he have worn either the baggy General Servie Cap or, as has been indicated in a couple of forums, would have have worn a beret? If so what colour? I gather there is some controversy surrounding black, but there is also mention of Brown and Dark Blue. So I am a little confused to say the least and any info gratefully received.

Also, can identify the medal ribbons on his uniform in the second photo?!

    Many thanks indeed.

    Mark
