Whitworth, 7th/9th (Highlanders) Battalion The Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment) Killed during 'A' Company's advance on Middelburg, Walcheren, 6th November 1944 and lies beside his 21 Royal Scots Comrades in the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery at Bergen-op-Zoom. Nemo me impune lacessit Joe Brown.
hello Joe I have copied your post detail below. For the Veterans who fought there in November 1944 returning to Walcheren is like returning 'home'. Yet, at first, it was strange to find people going about their day-to-day life walking over the ground where your comrades had died, which for you would be forever hallowed ground. You felt you wanted to stop and explain to them what had happened at the spot they now walked. Of course, the quick realisation that was what it had been all about: liberty and freedom and the return to the normalty of life for the people of Walcheren. It is an honoured place for Royal Scots where 21 of our comrades and dear friends lie buried in the safe and honoured keeping of our Dutch friends. Remembering Twenty-two Royal Scots Killed in Action Lance-Corporal G. Arbuthnot, Private B. Bain, Private T. Butchart, Major G. A. Chater, Private J. Currie, Private A. McN. Holborn, Corporal R.
