Here's his real name. http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/2665218/BETTS, CLARENCE Served as LAMONT. Son of William and Caroline Betts, of Walcha, New South Wales, Australia; husband of Ruby Betts Royal Australian Artillery A.I.F. 2/10 Fd. Regt.
Another one of those poor sods that survived years of abuse & privation as a PoW only to die days before the end of the war. His service record has been digitised by the NAA and it holds copies of his enlistment photos. The burial card held in a special file by the NAA shows his cause of death as disease & malnutrition (unable to attach images)
cheers for the hint. it's viewable online. good to see his photo on page 2 http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/ViewImage.aspx?B=4832592
Cheers Owen - your link refers to this line in my text "His service record has been digitised by the NAA and it holds copies of his enlistment photos" The next line "The burial card held in a special file by the NAA shows his cause of death as disease & malnutrition" refers to this file (his burial card is document 806 / 807) http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/ViewImage.aspx?B=8326045 Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, Thailand. 1J1 to 1P28-29 The Kanchanaburi War Cemetery registration sheets are held in volumes 55-58 This item contains registration sheets of Australians (all states) The entries in this item are arranged by plot, row and grave, with 78 graves in each row (eg, 1J1 to 1J78 = plot 1 row J, grave 1 to plot 1, row J, grave 78)
I thought I linked to all his records , it says on Page 4 ''cause of death given as malaria & malnutriton.' I tried to open your link & got Barcode number must be an integer
Thanks - I think I have fixed the link I posted (I somehow got a full stop after the document number) The file you link to is his service file, the second link that I provided is for a file which is part of a set showing grave registration cards for all Aussies buried in the cemetery Kranchanaburi [ie. Kanchanaburi War Cemetery] 1J1 to 1P28-29 This resource is great if a member's individual file hasn't been digitised - you can still access some good information from the collective file. Some of the grave registration card files digitised by the NAA for other cemeteries also have cards for all personnel buried there, regardless of nationality.
I wasn't originally able to jump straight to the right page, but the forms are filed in a logical sequence and his grave location is correctly recorded. It only took a few minutes to get there.
